Junior Captain’s Day at Waterford Castle

Last week our juveniles competed in the Junior Captain’s Day at Waterford Castle.  Oliver O’Donovan, Junior Convenor, tells us all about it:

On Wednesday 23rd August 15 junior members of our club set out from the Clubhouse at 8:30 accompanied by Oliver O’Donovan and Kevin Kiely. Frank Nevin was the driver of the Lee Valley bus. On route we held a Rules of Golf Quiz which our Junior Captain, Brian Boyd was victorious with Adam Wills second and Darragh Moriarty third. The correct answers were given on the return journey.

We arrived at 11:00 to take the ferry across to the island and to prepare for the challenge of a course that none of the members had played before. The weather was very good with sunshine and no wind.

We had five groups of three players with the first group teeing-off at 12:10. By 16:30 all five groups had completed their round of golf and it was left to Oliver and Kevin to check the cards while the members enjoyed their meal.

The Overall Winner was Keelan McCarthy (4) with 39 points (One over Par); Winner – Category 1 – Adam wills (10) with 34 points; Winner – Category 2 – Adam Power (16) – 34 points; Winner Category 3 – Shane Buckley (24) – 33 points.

We left Waterford Castle at 18:15 and arrived back at the Clubhouse at 20:30 after a most enjoyable day.
