Senior Scratch Cup 2015
The Senior Scratch Cup has been growing in popularity and prestige since it first started in 2001. 11 of the participants have gone pro since the cup started. Shane Lowry won the Senior Scratch cup in 2009 and is now considered one of the top 50 golfers in the world.
Saturday was a mix of sun and rain with some challenging gusts of wind. Sunday couldn’t have been more perfect. The sun was shining, the sky was blue and everybody was in good form.
And the winner is…
David O’Donovan won the Scratch Cup, scoring 215. He carried over a 3 shot lead from Saturday, and went on to win the Scratch Cup!
Ian O’Rourke and Shane Whooley both recorded 71s and were the only other players to break par.
O’Donovan gave a stellar victory speech, “We had a fantastic game out there today. Gary was actually urging me on at one stage and it meant an awful lot when you get a little nervy. Lee Valley is very special to us. My mother and mother in law are members here and my brother Morgan started his PGA training here. The welcome we got yesterday was second to none and the event is a credit to the Keohane’s and the club committee. I hope the event goes from strength to strength.”
Mardyke Arena sponsored the Scratch Cup. It just so happened that O’Donovan is a member of the Mardyke Arena. “Patsy Ryan and the Mardyke Arena have been very good to me and to the teams in Muskerry in the past few years and I’d like to think it has been paying dividends. The facility is fantastic and I hope that they continue to be involved in this great event.”
The event has just gained global ranking which will make next year’s 15th anniversary of the event one to look forward to!
